Public Art Conversations at Site and Situation 2023

Creative Recovery Network will present a public talk and workshop as part of Site and Situation – a forum and workshop series about public art taking place on the Gold Coast in May 2023.

Designed to provide opportunities for the local community and arts sector to engage in critical dialogue around public art and provide skills development workshops for local artists, the series invites discussion around three curated topics: the role of a public art curator, how public art can help communities with disaster recovery, and the politics of place.

A City of Gold Coast initiative curated by Swell Sculpture, the free three-part public art series will feature three invited national arts professionals delivering thought-provoking talks and industry workshops. The public forums explore how cities can be transformed through public art, and how responding to site and situation with authentic storytelling builds civic pride and social cohesion.

The series aims to invite creative thinking, inspire community discussion, and build confidence in the benefits of public art. The workshop component contributes to the professional development of Gold Coast public art practitioners.

Creative Recovery Network’s Executive Officer, Scotia Monkivitch, will present a public talk and workshop at the Broadbeach community space on May 16 and 17, “How Public Art Can Help Communities with Disaster Recovery”.

Other presenters in the program include Troy Casey & Amanda Hayman, Directors of Blaklash; and artists Judy Watson and Delvene Cockatoo-Collins
