Rising from the Ashes

Understory Art & Nature trail, Northcliffe WA

Rising from the Ashes has been a long-term project for the communities of Northcliffe and Windy Harbour in Western Australia in commemoration of the 2015 bushfire in the area.

Developed in partnership with artist Kim Perrier, the project was a way for the community to commemorate those effected by the fires, to celebrate and to say thank you to the people who helped, acknowledge what was lost and to look forward to the future. The work is situated in the Understory Art and Nature Trail.

Our visitors comment that they get a stronger sense of having ‘met’ the local community now, that knowing that the figures are all based on real people, helps to anchor the artwork in reality and give the installation a greater authenticity.” – Fiona Sinclair
